SAE660 / W7 Bronze is a high‑leaded, tin‑based bronze alloy that offers excellent machinability, strong load‑carrying capacity and good resistance to corrosion in brine and seawater conditions.

Key Features

This alloy provides excellent machining characteristics thanks to its lead content, combined with good sliding and dry‑running properties under moderate loads. It is not subject to dezincification and delivers good resistance to brine and seawater, making it a reliable choice for pump and valve components, bearings and bushings.

Typical Applications
  • General‑purpose bushes & bearings under moderate loads
  • Valve and slide seating rings
  • Fuel and water pump bushings
  • Automotive fittings and hydraulic components
  • Pump and valve components exposed to brine or seawater environments
Forms of Supply

Offered as round bar, hollow bar/tube, flat bar and plate in continuously‑cast format. Custom length cut‑to‑size services are available for delivery across the UAE & Gulf region.

Technical Specifications

Specifications & Mechanical Properties
  • Copper (Cu): 81.0‑85.0% – base matrix element.
  • Tin (Sn): ~6.0‑8.0% – reinforces strength and wear resistance.
  • Lead (Pb): ~6.0‑8.0% – enhances machinability and lubrication.
  • Zinc (Zn): Up to ~4.0% – contributes to alloy structure.
  • Density: ~8.9 g/cm³ – heavy and robust material.
  • Tensile Strength (min): ~205‑240 MPa (depending on casting method)
  • Proof Strength (0.2%): ~100‑140 MPa
  • Elongation: ~10‑15% (continuous cast)
  • Hardness: ~65‑70 HB (typical)
  • Processing / Treatment: Supplied continuously cast; best performance achieved with proper machining and lubrication.
Thermal, Electrical & Miscellaneous Properties
  • Melting Point (approx.): ~977 °C liquidus/solidus for this alloy family.
  • Thermal Conductivity: ~58 W/m·K (approx at room temperature)
  • Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion: ~18 ×10⁻⁶ /K (20‑200°C)
  • Electrical Conductivity: ~12% IACS @20 °C – moderate.
  • Wear & Abrasion Resistance: Good under sliding contact and moderate load when adequately lubricated.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to brine and seawater; not prone to dezincification.
  • Machinability: Excellent – lead content gives very good free‑machining performance compared to similar bronzes.
