Chemical Composition
- Carbon (C): 0.33–0.45%
- Silicon (Si): ≤ 1.00%
- Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.50%
- Chromium (Cr): 15.5–17.5%
- Molybdenum (Mo): 0.80–1.30%
- Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.030%
- Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.030%
Treatment
- Forging: Heat slowly and uniformly to 1050–850°C before forging. Reheat if necessary.
- Annealing: Heat to 740–760°C, hold until uniform temperature is achieved, then cool slowly in the furnace to 550°C before air cooling.
- Hardening: Preheat to 850–900°C, then heat to 1000–1050°C. Quench in oil or air for best results.
- Tempering: Heat slowly to 250–400°C according to desired hardness and toughness. Air cool after holding temperature is reached.
- Polishing: Excellent for high-gloss finish moulds due to its superior polishability and corrosion resistance.
