Technical Specifications
Chemical Composition
- Carbon (C): 1.45-1.60% – High carbon content provides strong carbide network for wear resistance.
- Chromium (Cr): 11.00-13.00% – High chromium ensures hardenability, wear resistance and dimensional stability.
- Molybdenum (Mo): 0.70-1.20% – Adds toughness and elevated temperature strength.
- Vanadium (V): 0.70-1.10% – Refines grain structure and boosts wear resistance.
- Manganese (Mn): 0.20-0.60% – Supports toughness and alloying effectiveness.
- Silicon (Si): 0.10-0.60% – Provides deoxidation and adds strength.
- Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.03% – Keeps brittleness low.
- Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.03% – Maintains steel quality and machinability.
Treatment
- Soft-Annealing: Heat to approx. 820-870°C, hold as per section, then furnace-cool to ~600°C, followed by air cooling to achieve ≤ ~255 HB for machining readiness.
- Hardening: Austenitise at ~1000-1040°C, then air, oil or vacuum quench depending on section size; achieves hardness ~60-62 HRC.
- Tempering: Repeated tempering cycles between ~150-550°C to balance hardness and toughness; final hardness range ~55-62 HRC depending on variant.
- Finishing & Coating: Excellent for nitriding, PVD/CVD coatings or mirror surface polishing thanks to high-alloy structure and wear resistance.
