Technical Specifications

Specifications & Mechanical Properties
  • Copper (Cu): ≥ 78.0% – base matrix element.
  • Aluminium (Al): 10.0‑11.5% – strengthens the alloy, forms protective oxide layer.
  • Iron (Fe): 3.0‑5.0% – enhances strength and toughness.
  • Nickel (Ni): 3.0‑5.5% – improves toughness, corrosion and wear resistance.
  • Manganese (Mn): ~3.5% – refines structure.
  • Density: ~7.53 g/cm³ (0.272 lb/in³) – substantial mass and robust structure.
  • Tensile Strength (min): ~95 ksi (~655 MPa) – high load‑bearing capability.
  • Yield Strength (min): ~42 ksi (~290 MPa) – impressive for a non‑ferrous alloy.
  • Brinell Hardness (3000 kg): ~208 BHN typical – wear and surface resistance.
  • Processing / Treatment: Supplied as‑cast, or solution‑treated/ hardened for increased strength; control of heat‑treatment and machining is key.
Thermal, Electrical & Miscellaneous Properties
  • Melting Range (approx.): Solidus ~ 1038 °C, Liquidus ~ 1054 °C – high temperature tolerance.
  • Thermal Conductivity: ~41.9 W/m·K – moderate heat transfer.
  • Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion: ~15.5×10⁻⁶ /°C (20‑300 °C) – thermal growth to consider.
  • Electrical Conductivity: ~8% IACS (@68 °F) – moderate conductivity.
  • Wear & Abrasion Resistance: Excellent under high load, shock or sliding wear due to alloy structure and nickel‑aluminium combination.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Very good in seawater, brackish water and heavy industrial environments; protective aluminium oxide film around copper matrix.
  • Fatigue & Shock Performance: High resistance to deformation under overload and shocks – suitable for heavy duty dynamic parts.
