C45 1045 steel is a medium carbon engineering steel known for its good strength, machinability, and moderate wear resistance. AISI 1045 steel is commonly used for shafts, gears, axles, and other industrial components.

Key Features

C45 carbon steel provides a balanced combination of medium tensile strength and impact toughness. It offers good machinability in the annealed condition and can achieve higher surface hardness through induction or flame hardening.

Typical Applications
  • Shafts, axles and spindles
  • Gears and gear blanks
  • Connecting rods and crankshafts
  • Pins, studs and machine components
  • Components requiring good machinability with moderate strength
Forms of Supply

Supplied as hot rolled or normalized round bars, flats, plates, and blocks. As trusted steel manufacturers in UAE and metal traders dealing in ferrous material, we offer standard or custom lengths across the UAE and Gulf region.

Technical Specifications

Chemical Composition
  • Carbon (C): 0.43–0.50% – Provides the medium-carbon base strength and hardenability.
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.60–0.90% – Improves strength, toughness and deoxidation.
  • Silicon (Si): 0.15–0.35% – Adds strength and supports machinability.
  • Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.040% – Limits brittleness and helps maintain toughness.
  • Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.050% – Ensures adequate machinability.
Mechanical Properties
  • Tensile Strength: Typically around 570–700 MPa in hot-rolled/forged condition.
  • Yield Strength: Typically around 300–450 MPa in hot-rolled/forged condition.
  • Elongation: Typically ≥14% in hot-rolled/forged condition.
  • Hardness (HB): Around 170–210 HB in the annealed/normalized condition.
  • Surface Hardening Capability: Can be flame or induction hardened to approx HRC 55 with suitable section size.
