EN9 carbon steel is a medium-carbon engineering steel (≈ 0.50–0.60% C) offering good strength, machinability, and wear resistance. EN 9 material can be surface-hardened to enhance durability for industrial applications.

Chemical Composition
  • Carbon (C): 0.50-0.60% – Provides the medium-carbon base strength and hardenability.
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.50-0.90% – Improves toughness and ductility.
  • Silicon (Si): 0.10-0.40% – Adds strength and supports machining.
  • Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.05% – Limits brittleness.
  • Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.05% – Maintains machinability.
Mechanical Properties
  • Tensile Strength: 600-700 MPa (normalized) up to ~850-1000 MPa (quenched & tempered)
  • Yield Strength: ≥ 310 MPa (normalized) up to ≥ 570 MPa (quenched & tempered)
  • Elongation: Around 12-14% depending on condition
  • Hardness (HB): Approx. 201-255 HB (normalized) up to 248-302 HB (quenched & tempered)
