420 Stainless Steel

Where Strength Meets Sophistication — Stainless Steel that Redefines Durability, Precision, and Lasting Elegance for Every Application.

You are here:

420 Stainless Steel

420 Stainless Steel is a hardenable martensitic grade with at least 12% chromium and higher carbon for improved hardness and wear resistance. 420 ss material blends moderate corrosion resistance with good machinability, making it ideal for blades, shafts, and precision parts.

Key Features

This grade offers excellent hardness and wear resistance after heat treatment while maintaining polishability and moderate corrosion resistance. Stainless steel AISI 420 is suited for applications where surface finish and strength are critical.

Typical Applications
  • Cutlery, knives and tooling blades
  • Valve parts, shafts and pump components
  • Wear resistant machine parts, surgical and dental instruments
  • Industrial hardware requiring a hard surface plus corrosion resistance
Forms of Supply

Supplied in annealed, semi-hardened, or quenched and tempered condition as bars, flats, sheets, plates, or machined blanks. Cut-to-size and custom finish options are available across thr GCC. Silver Metal Trading LLC is a trusted stainless steel supplier and stockist, providing 420 stainless steel as part of our services as a leading metal trading company.

Technical Specifications

Chemical Composition
  • Carbon (C): 0.15–0.40% – provides hardenability and enhanced wear resistance.
  • Silicon (Si): ≤ 1.00% – supports strength and de‑oxidation.
  • Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.00% – adds toughness and supports alloy structure.
  • Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.04% – reduces brittleness.
  • Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.03% – improves machinability.
  • Chromium (Cr): 12.0–14.0% – gives corrosion resistance and supports the martensitic hardenable matrix.
  • Iron (Fe): Balance – main base metal element.
Certifications
  • Standard Mill Test Certificate (MTC) included verifying chemical and mechanical values.
  • Available with EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 inspection certificates or equivalent third‑party verified documents on request.
  • Conformance to standards such as ASTM A240 / A276 (or equivalent) as applicable for bars, plates and sheet formats.
